The seminar for this program in 2007 was held according to the following details. 
Sponsorship: Hitotsubashi University Graduate School of Law, Renmin University of China Law School, Busan National University College of Law 
Cosponsorship: Hitotsubashi University 21st century COE programme “Innovative Research Bases in Europe,” Asian Law Association (the first day)
Schedule: Saturday, November 17, to Sunday, 18.
Location: Hitotsubashi University 
Main theme: “The Present State and the Future of Research into East Asian Law”

  • Theme of the first day (17th): “The Present State of Research into the Reception and Creation of Law”
  • Theme of the second day (18th): “Comparative Study of Traditional Legal Culture - Towards the Formulation of a Common Law”

2. Joint research groups

(1)The problem of financial crime under globalization
An international symposium entitled “The Problem of Financial Crime under Globalization” was held in Beijing in China on August 25 to 27, 2007. Joint research was conducted including participants from Korea into subjects such as, "Financial Crime in Japan and its Criminal Regulation," and "Financial Crime in East Asia and the Possibility of Cooperative Measures.” From Japan, the following persons (Japanese researchers participating in this program) participated as reporters: Keiichi Muraoka (Professor, Hitotsubashi University) "The Gatekeeper System in Japan,” Toshio Kamiyama (Honorary Professor, Okayama University) “Financial Crime in Japan and its Sanctions” Yunhai Wang (Professor, Hitotsubashi University) “The Viewpoint that Financial Crime Researches Should Take,” Hiroyuki Tsuda (Associate Professor, Meiji Gakuin University) “Securities Crime in Japan – Focus on Insider Trading.”
(2)Constitutional state construction in the 21st century and the ideal legal system
An international symposium on “Constitutional State Construction in the 21st Century and the Ideal Legal System” was held in Beijing, China, on October 13 to 14, 2007, and several researchers from Japan participated.
(3)Environmental laws
A symposium entitled “The Present State and the Problems with Environmental Laws” was held in Chongqing or Beijing in China, in around December, 2007, or around March, 2008, and at the same time, a seminar or a workshop on “The Present State of and the Problems with Environmental Laws in Japan” are held at the Renmin University of China.
(4)Uniform law on property sales
The ratification of the United Nations Convention on International Contracts for the Sale of Property is being promoted in each country in the East Asia region, and the volume of business within the region is increasing. Joint research into the state of property sales law in the three countries and its relation to the United Nations Convention is scheduled to be conducted in Japan.
